Bird Or Prophet?

There is a mystery bird that has been visiting our neighborhood for over a month. My wife and five-year-old granddaughter have been telling me about it, but I just laughed and thought they were pulling my leg. They told me that it was a very big strange stork or crane looking bird.
Then my wife took a picture of the bird and I became a believer. You can see the picture here. However, it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I actually saw the creature.
It kind of looks like birds I have seen in the Deep South, like in Florida, living in pristine swamps or something like that. But we live in the Mid-West in a very "blue state" where the temperatures have been near zero of late. Also, it hangs around with a few ducks and two muskrats by the bank of the tiny stream in back of our house that is more of a city drainage ditch.
But why?
I have been pondering this. Why would a beautiful bird from a "red state" visit our back yard? I have come up with two possible explanations.
First, I thought that because of George Bush's global warming, the poor bird is confused and doesn't know where he or she is.
Then I came up with what I think is the better explanation. This Florida-like bird visit is a sign that our "blue state" will be soon warming politically to become a "red state". Kind of like a prophet - a bird prophet.
I will be hopefully watching our drainage ditch and the skies for more prophets. I'll keep you updated on this developing story.
