The Journal of The Turkish Weekly reported this afternoon that airport authorities detained a US soldier and an Australian man after discovering a hidden handgun in the soldier's luggage during a routine airport security check. The soldier was identified as Cristopher Franz Pipes and the Australian is Ross Milosevic.

The two were traveling from Iraq to Istanbul, Turkey and had arrived in the southern Turkish city of Diyaybakir to fly the rest of the trip. The two crossed into Turkey from Iraq at the Habur border crossing near Silopi located near Sirnak.

The detainees were transported to a local court with charges of carrying a firearm without a license. The judge released both Pipes and Milosevic and they will be tried without detention according to the report. If they are convicted of the charge, the pair can face up to three years in prison.
